Immigration visits Coober Pedy
Media Release – 11 August 2008
Officers from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in Adelaide will be visiting Coober Pedy from August 27-28.
It is the first such regional visit by departmental officers, who are bringing services normally only available in Adelaide, to regional towns and cities throughout this year.
So far, visits have also been made to Mount Gambier, Berri, Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Augusta and Broken Hill.
‘DIAC places great importance on providing services to regional areas and these visits are a large part of that,’ DIAC state director Greg Kelly said.
‘While the department has a great deal of information available over the phone or on the Internet, some people prefer to speak to officers face-to-face, and these visits are about meeting that need,’ Mr Kelly added.
People from the Coober Pedy area, with immigration or citizenship matters they wish to discuss, are urged to take advantage of the visit. Appointments can be made by telephoning 08 8237 6135.
Officers will also be able to conduct citizenship testing by appointment while in Coober Pedy.
Applications for visas and Australian citizenship can also be made with staff on-site.
The event will be based in the Hutchison Street offices of the District Council of Coober Pedy.
